Natural deodorant seriously why bother?

Like the smell? Fragrance/parfum is a catchall term for 1000’s of different chemicals. You think fragrance means 1 scent/chemical but it could mean 10 or 25, all unlisted.  Fragrances can be added for a lovely smell or to mask the smell of other harsh chemicals, so even an ‘unscented’ product can contain fragrance in order to create a non-scent. Fragrances are known for contributing to contact dermatitis, headaches, skin rashes, asthma, sneezing, runny eyes.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastic and vinyl. Cosmetic companies like Phthalates because they make products smear really well, they help hold all the ingredients together and keep them evenly distributed. Some Phthalates are considered hormone disruptors. Yep, they can mess with your boy and girl hormones.

Well, what to say. It’s used to block up your pores - no sweat = no smell. It’s been linked to Alzheimer’s and breast cancer.

Propylene Glycol

This petroleum chemical is listed as harmful to your liver, heart and central nervous system.

Who cares, Right?

Well, I do. Why, I hear you ask? The supermarket stuff is cheaper, more scented and works just fine. Yep, I agree and I used to wear it without much thought or care. What changed for me? Life, illness, becoming a mother and the accumulation of some wisdom, just some!

Why I transitioned to natural deodorant

I made a choice. This is it – ‘to actually recognize the ingredients in everything I ate, put on my body and cleaned with’. Sounds basic right, nope, excluded most products I had in my home. Shit!!!

For me, deodorant was the hardest to find with recognizable ingredients, mostly the labels were full of ingredients I had trouble pronouncing.  So for 2 years I only wore deodorant to work and the rest of the time – el natural. Pleasant?  Mmmm, not pleasant.

Natural Human

Skin is the largest organ for us humans and I just didn’t want to keep putting this stuff on my body.

My armpits were already at a disadvantage from being shaved (removing a natural defence mechanism), and I worried about these chemicals so close to my mammary glands.

Everything we put on our skin impacts us whether we realize or not.

I’ve tried so many natural deodorants. They don't work, I still smell

Yes, I tried a lot too, and was fed up with paying a lot for stuff that didn’t work and STILL had some ingredients I couldn’t recognize.  That’s the reason we started our business – Three Mamas. Just wanted to keep life simple and honest.  Our deodorant truly works, has recognizable ingredients and I’m happy for my kids to use it. Check out our range in our online store.
